How to Stop Lower Back Pain While Lunging

“This hurts my back”

I’ve heard that alot.

Especially during single leg movements like lunges, split squats, crushing of your enemy’s skulls and step ups.

It kind of doesn’t make sense.

Single leg exercises (in theory) are supposed to strengthen the area that makes your lower back feel better.

They’re definitely not supposed to make your lower back hurt more.

But they can.

Because the difference between medicine and poison is the dose.

And the difference between and effective exercise and a trip to the ER is the technique.

So if your lower back hurts when you’re lunging it’s probably because you’re keeping your torso upright.

You’re sitting as tall as you can and trying to have picture perfect, stiff posture.

But that ain’t right.

That can put a TON of pressure on your lumbar spine.

What you need to do is lean a liiiiiiiitle bit forward, and look like you’re at the bottom of a sprint.

(For those of you who haven’t been active in a while, that's when you’re running really fast.)

That slight forward lean, into an athletic posture is going to keep your hips aligned with your knee and your shoulders.

So they can’t tip, tilt or sway.

And that will put your body in a position to bolster your lower back.

Instead of ruining it.
